Medium and Large Injection Molding Press Department
CBT/EPSS for machine operators of 55 different injection molding machines. Operators were responsible for all aspects of machine production, changeovers, including operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control, and repairs. On top of that, operators were rotated on the different machines which made training that much more valuable.
The big challenge in this situation was that operators would be moved from machine to machine, and each machine was different and/or had characteristics specific to a particular machine or process. Operators couldn’t be trained on everything. So the training covered the basics of commonalities between all the machines, then branched out into specifics for EPSS support, primarily with changeovers. Changeovers were complicated, needed to be done quickly, and varied by machine, so were by far the biggest challenge of maintaining production goals.
As PM and Lead ID I conducted the FEA, scoped and managed schedule/budget, conducted all onsite research, and developed the content/design doc before handing it off to another ID to storyboard. Boards were handed off to a graphic artis for 3D modeling and illustrations and a developer who built the program in Authorware. The program ran from kiosks on the factory floor.
