Web-Based Training for CBRNE Program
I was lead PM and Lead ID on this $1.2M project. The effort leveraged the WMD-REALITI program which was a 750 hour accredited training program that focused on the knowledge and skills required to work in fixed and mobile chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) labs. I had worked on REALITI as an ID the previous year, validating classes, labs, and learning objectives as the course was taught to the initial group of first responders.
My main role was to manage the overall effort and budget. I was also lead ID and mentored three IDs of varying skill levels. Each ID partnered with the instructors for the subject, and each led the development within their own discipline (chemistry, biology, radiology). The built from cognitive maps and a partial media feasibility assessment we conducted the previous year, and storyboarded content for instructor approval and handoff to graphic artists and developers.
The previous year, we had done a limited media feasibility assessment (MFA) to set up the ALERT project. Concurrent to WBT production, I led work on an MFA for all of the remaining content in the REALITI program. Other reports included a Transition Plan, Training Requirements Analysis Plan, Training Plan, and a Final Report.
For a number of reasons, the project was built with an Adobe Director shell engine, which loaded one HML page at a time, enabling richer media over limited bandwidth. Even though use of Director was quite rare, it was actually a cutting-edge solution at the time. The developer wrote some papers on it because the engine he built was a novel solution to managing a great deal of information online, but of course, Director is now long gone. The course ran on an Atlas Pro LMS. Programs like Articulate were emerging but still not robust enough for something as complex as this course, so Adobe, Flash, etc. were still the best options. All of the process flows are basically the same, and the storyboarding is exactly the same when I do similar projects for Captivate or in other production handoff environments.
Overall, a great experience in project and people management while developing worthwhile content.
