Distance Learning Lessons for Classroom Instructors in Captivate

Most of the instructors at the Uniformed Services University (USU) had been teaching in face-to-face classes, with limited distance learning. As COVID-19 started to unfold Spring of 2020, they needed to migrate their content online swiftly and effectively. Many of these instructors were unfamiliar with the fundamentals of designing content for an online audience. USU tasked me to research, outline, and storyboard new content in key distance learning areas to help bring these instructors up to speed.

I teamed with a developer who is an expert in Captivate and a graphic artist. I researched content, sent it to USU for review, then boarded lessons. After boards were reviewed, my co-worker would develop graphics and build the content out in Captivate. It was then uploaded to run on Sakai.

Lessons covered accessibility, choosing media for DL teaching, and how to plan and manage prompts and responses in chats and other online teaching tools.
